How to Guide: Do-It-Yourself Replacing Volvo 850 AC Evaporator
The air conditioner evaporator of Volvo vehicle is being one of the most expensive part to be repaired. The following 
document will guide you for repairing and replacing the air conditioner of Volvo 850/V70/S70 by do-it-yourself or working with your mechanic.
You should prepare the following tools: 3/8” and 1/4” socket drivers, 3/8” and 1/4” socket extensions, Torx bits 1/4” drive (T15, T20, T25), Torx 3” long bit (T30), 3/8” standard sockets (18mm, 13mm, 12mm, 10mm), 1/4” standard socket (8mm), 3/8” Allen (hex) bit (6mm), 1/4” blade standard screwdriver, Small jewelers screwdriver, Very small Allen wrench (1/32”), Wire cutters, Long-nosed pliers, Large pliers, or slip-joint pliers, set of Garter spring connection release tools (1/2” and 5/8” required), automotive jack and jack stands, and Sharpie fine-point marker.
You will be guided with how-to perform the under-hood disconnects, remove the center console, remove the steering wheel, remove the dashboard, remove the knee bolsters, replace the evaporator, and recharge the air conditioning system.
