How to Tips: Do It Yourself Jump Starting Your Car

The following schematic may guide you in diy jump starting your car. There are three possibilities that you might jump starting a car diyrequire to jump starting a car: the battery is fault (electrolyte low, worn out), the charging system is not working for any reason, and the battery has been drained (repeated start or leaving the lights on).

1. Connect the Red jump lead to the positive terminal of the battery
2. Connect the other end of the Red jump lead to the positive terminal of the other booster battery
3. Connect the Black jump lead to the negative terminal of the booster battery
4. Connect the other end of the Black jump lead to a bolt or bracket on the engine block away from battery then On the vehicle to be started.

You need to ensure the following precautions and tips if you have to jump starting a car by yourself, they are mentioned as follow:

1. Please ensure the ignition is off,
2. All electrical equipment (lights, heater, wipers, etc) is switched off.
3. Booster battery is the same voltage as the discharged one in the vehicle.
4. The transmission is in neutral or park for the Automatic
5. If the battery booster belong to another car, the two cars must not touch each other

Please also ensure that the jump leads won’t come into contact with the fan, drive belts or other moving parts of the engine. Start the engine using the booster battery, then with the engine running at idle speed, disconnect the jump leads in the reverse order of connection.
