How to Test Opel CIH Ignition System Adjustment (Opel 1.9 Engine Firing Order)

The following picture is Opel 1.9 Engine Firing Order schematic, if you need information about how to perform an adjustment test in the Opel CIH ignition system. This test is to be performed with the distributor vaccum hoses disconnected and plugged.

This Opel 1.9 Engine firing order schematic covers Lower Front Crank Pulley (can be rotated clockwise with a 19mm wrench on bolt to align timing marks), Vaccum Retard (connected to port on brake booster tree fitting by smller hose on intake manifold), Vaccum Advance (connected to ported vaccum outlet by larger hose on carburetor base) and the firing order is 1-3-4-2. Adjustments can be made to the point gap and is checked at idle with a Dwell Meter that set to 50 degrees + or – 2 degrees.

The Opel Ignition Timing is designed to be set at Top Dead Center/TDC (source: opelclub.com).
