The Opel 1.9L engine draws the carburetors fuel/air mixture through the intake manifold into the cylinder head, past intake manifold gasket leak DIY the valves into the combustion chamber. Symptoms such hesitation, stumble or surge pattern of acceleration, inability to idle smoothly below 1100 rpm, a loss of engine torque, and/or you find the idle speed rpm set too high, could be indicating that you have a vaccum leak in your engine.

But if you know there is no vaccum leak at the intake manifold gaskets, you may then test the vaccum hoses while the engine is idling. After locating and repairing any and all vacuum leaks, readjust carburetor idle mixture and idle speed as necessary.
