There are tips for items to be concerned for such the trees, artificial snow, lights, candles, trimmings, paper, and fires decorating. It emphasizes the general rules for holiday safety i.e. make an emergency plan to use if a fire breaks out anywhere in the home, avoid wearing loose flowing clothes, never burn candles near evergreens, look for and eliminate potential danger spots near candles, fireplaces, trees, and/or electrical connections.
And here are the safety tips for your Christmas Holiday Decoration:
Trees
- Buy artificial trees with fire resistant labeled
- Heated rooms dry trees out rapidly, creating fire hazards, so place tree away from fireplaces, radiators and other heat sources.
- Use thin guy-wires to secure a large tree to walls or ceiling
Snow
- If you buy an artificial snow spray, please read container labels and follow the directions since it can irritate lungs if inhaled.
Lights
- Use only lights that have been tested for safety (read the label identification).
- Discard damaged sets or repair them before using.
- Turn off all lights on trees and other decorations when you go to bed or leave the house.
- Never use electric lights on a metallic tree.
- Use colored spotlights above or beside a tree, never fastened onto it!
- Keep “bubbling” lights away from children.
Candles
- Never use lighted candles on a tree and use non-flammable holders.
- Keep away from other decorations and wrapping paper and place candles where they cannot be knocked down or blown over.
Trimmings
- Use only non-combustible or flame-resistant materials.
- Choose tinsel or artificial icicles or plastic or non-leaded metals since the children may ingest it.
Fires
- Before lighting any fire, remove all greens, boughs, papers, and other decorations from fireplace area.
- Pay attention with “fire salts” and keep away from children.
Paper
- Use materials labeled non-combustible or flame-resistant.
- Never place trimming near open flames or electrical connections.
