The Daytime Running Light (DRL) was first mandated in Scandinavian countries where it is frequently and persistently dark during daytime hours in winter time (wikipedia.org). The following step by step guide will take you to disable the DRL of 1994 Volvo 850.
- Take off the fusebox cover which is located under the bonnet right by the RH side of the windscreen
- Pull out the largest, coloured green headlamp relay that fits into double socket
- Prise off the relay cover
- Find the pin marked ‘56b’. It’s a 1/4″ tab, and is connected via two loops of thick wire to other pins marked ‘56bL’ and ‘56bR’
- Lever up the connection to pin 56b and cut it
- Push the severed connection back towards the base of the relay and move it to one side so the connection to pin 56b remains broken
- Refit the relay cover, plug in the relay and refit the fusebox cover
